About the Band
The Royal British Legion Victory Brass Band has been entertaining Portsmouth residents since 1980. Based at the RBL Club Fratton, where the band has its own Band-room built with lottery funding and kind donations, the band is currently led by Musical Director Steve Yoxon. Steve is an ex-Royal Navy musician, having been a cornet player in Victory Brass for 11 years and picked up the baton in 2003, helping the band develop in numbers and performance quality.
The band performs at many local events throughout the year, including concerts, fêtes, the Great South Run and the Victorian Festival of Christmas as well as official remembrance events in support of The Royal British Legion.
The band has not participated in regional contesting for many years preferring to focus on the playing concerts and entertainment events, however the band has supported the local Portsmouth Music Festival in the past and has won the brass section contest on two occasions.
The band also tours approximately every 2 years; past tours include the USA in 2011 with RBL Harwich Band, Germany in 2013, Netherlands in 2015, France in 2017 and Merseyside in 2019. Our touring plans were messed up by Covid19, but now planning a trip in the near future.
